With the Deel integration, moving a candidate to a stage you choose in Deel invites them to a Test Candidates assessment, and when they finish, a note with the result appears on their application in Deel. You set it up once and it runs for every candidate who reaches that stage.
Connect
- In Test Candidates, go to Settings, then Integrations, find Deel and click Connect.
- You are taken to Deel to sign in. Deel asks you to allow Test Candidates to read your jobs and applications, add notes, and be told when a candidate moves stage. Click Allow.
- You come back to Test Candidates with Deel showing as connected, with the name of your Deel organisation.
Only admins can connect, and the person connecting needs permission in Deel to manage hiring and webhooks. If Deel does not let Test Candidates register for stage changes, the integration still works: Test Candidates checks Deel for new stage moves every few minutes instead. The Integrations page says which of the two it is doing.
Choose the stage and the assessment
- On the Deel card in Integrations, click Add trigger.
- Choose a job in Deel, or leave it blank for every job, then choose the stage in that job's interview plan. Stages come from Deel, so if you change the interview plan in Deel, come back and pick the stage again.
- Choose the Test Candidates assessment to invite candidates to.
- Save. You can add a trigger for each job you are hiring for.
Use one assessment per role, so the candidates in Test Candidates line up with the job in Deel.
What the candidate gets
When a candidate is moved to the stage you chose, Test Candidates invites them using the email address on their Deel candidate record. They receive the same invitation email Test Candidates always sends, with their link to start. Deel does not email them about the test.
A candidate is only invited once to an assessment. Moving them to the stage again, or moving them back and forward, does not invite them again. A candidate with no email address in Deel is not invited.
What comes back, and when
When the candidate finishes every test on the assessment, Test Candidates adds a note to their application in Deel, under the name of one of your hiring team. The note says the assessment is complete, lists each test with its score, gives the average where there is more than one test, and links to the full report in Test Candidates.
Results normally arrive within a few minutes of the candidate finishing.
Locked results
Scores only come through once the result is unlocked, the same as everywhere else in Test Candidates. If the candidate finishes while the result is still locked, the note in Deel says the assessment is complete and that the result is locked, with the link to the report and no scores. Unlock it in Test Candidates and a second note with the scores follows shortly after. Nothing written to Deel is ever a score from a locked result.
Disconnect
In Test Candidates, go to Settings, then Integrations, Deel, and click Disconnect. Test Candidates removes its stage-change registration from Deel and forgets the connection. No further candidates are invited and no further notes are written. Candidates already invited can still finish, and their results stay in Test Candidates.
To remove the app from the Deel side as well, open Organization settings, then Developer, then Apps in Deel and revoke Test Candidates there.
If something goes wrong
- Deel shows as needing attention. Deel stopped accepting the connection, usually because the app was revoked in Deel or the person who connected it left. Click Connect again.
- A candidate was not invited. Check that the trigger names the stage they were moved to and the job they applied for, and that the candidate has an email address in Deel.
- The note has not appeared. Check that the candidate has finished every test on the assessment, and whether the result is still locked.
