Build an assessment from a job advert

Describe the role or paste the advert, and the builder suggests tests and drafts questions you can edit.

Last updated 19 October 2026

If you have a job advert, or just a role title, the builder can do the first draft. Choose Describe the role on the first builder step, paste the advert or type the title, and choose Suggest an assessment.

What you get back

  • A matched role and its tests. The builder matches your text to one of our 500+ job roles and proposes that role's tests, in order, with a one-line reason for each. Where a test has Foundation and Advanced versions, the level follows the role, or the seniority your advert describes. If the match is not right, choose Change role and pick from the role list.
  • The total time, with a note when the sitting is longer than 50 minutes. For a first screening stage, shorter keeps more candidates to the end. The builder keeps only as many questions as fit within that, never fewer than three.
  • Three to eight questions about the role, drafted from your advert in the language the advert is written in. Each has four options, one correct answer and a short note on why that answer is right. The note is for you; candidates never see it.

You can ask for suggestions in any of the languages we test in. The questions come back in the language of your advert.

Editing the questions

The questions appear on the Review step under Your role questions. Edit the wording or the correct answer, delete any that do not earn their place, or Regenerate all for a fresh set. Read each one as a candidate would, with no advert in front of them. A question with no correct answer or two identical options cannot be saved.

The questions are your own content. They are saved as one custom test owned by your workspace, named after the assessment, and they never appear in the shared library or in any other employer's account. You can find and change them later under Test builder, like any custom test.

What the builder does not do

  • It does not write the tests. Every library test comes from the role catalogue, the same mapping behind role templates.
  • It does not read anything but the text you paste. No candidate data, no library questions and no other account's content are involved.
  • It is a starting point. Treat the suggestion as a first draft by someone who knows the test library and has read your advert once.

Limits

Each workspace can ask for a limited number of suggestions a day. When the allowance is used, or the service is unavailable, the builder says so and the other three ways to start work as normal.
