Skills and knowledge tests

Role-specific tests covering software, languages and particular fields. Multiple choice, timed, and no preparation needed.

As well as reasoning tests, an employer can include tests covering a particular skill or field: software, a language, or knowledge relevant to the role.

What they look like

The same format as the other tests: a question and a set of options, one of which is correct. Everything is answered by choosing rather than typing.

That is worth saying plainly, because some platforms ask candidates to write and run code in a live editor. Ours do not. A test about a technical subject asks questions about it rather than asking you to build something.

What skills tests cover

It depends entirely on what the employer chose for the role. It might be a software package the job uses daily, a language the role needs, or knowledge particular to the industry.

The instructions page before each test names it and tells you what it covers, so you are never going in blind.

Preparing for a skills test

There is nothing to revise, and we do not publish the questions. The tests are aimed at the working knowledge the role needs, so if the job is a reasonable fit for your experience, the test will be too.

If a test covers something you genuinely have not used, say so to the employer rather than worrying about it. They chose the tests, and they are the ones who decide what weight to give the result.

The time limit

These are timed, and the limit is on the instructions page before you begin. As with every timed test, the clock does not pause. See how your answers are saved.
